Award Nomination FAQs
What is the Awards of Excellence?
Historic Hotels of America and Historic Hotels Worldwide recognize and celebrate the finest historic hotels across the globe annually by presenting awards in various categories ranging from Best Historic Resort, Legendary Family Historic Hoteliers of the Year, New Member of the Year, and many others.
What is the deadline for entries?
Nominations closed on August 9, 2024. Nominee Finalists will be announced late August/early September.
Who can be nominated?
Historic Hotels of America®
To be nominated for the 2024 Awards of Excellence, the hotel must be a member of Historic Hotels of America, demonstrate how the hotel increases the recognition and celebration of the hotel’s history, heritage, historic preservation, and its membership as well as how the hotel (through its ownership, leadership, and employees) contributes significantly as an industry leader in the designated award category.
Historic Hotels Worldwide®
To be nominated for the 2024 Awards of Excellence, the hotel must be a member of Historic Hotels Worldwide, demonstrate how the hotel increases the recognition and celebration of the hotel’s history, heritage, historic preservation, and its membership as well as how the hotel (through its ownership, leadership, and employees) contributes significantly as an industry leader in the designated award category.
How are the nominations judged?
A panel of experts will judge and evaluate the nominees in each category based on the information submitted in the nomination form as well as any supporting documentation, images, and videos submitted prior to August 9, 2024. All judging is completed confidentially by officials representing Historic Hotels of America and representing Historic Hotels Worldwide.
How many nominations can I submit?
One nomination can be submitted for each award category. A separate nomination is required for each award category in which the hotel should be considered. Supporting documentation, images, and videos should relate to the category in which the hotel or hotelier is being nominated. Nominations are qualitative, based on strength of support, rather than quantitative, with a high number of nominations.
How do I submit a nomination?
Nominees can send supporting documents for each category to Awards@HistoricHotels.org. Award winners may be asked to submit additional materials such as high-resolution media to be displayed at the gala.
Where will the 2024 Historic Hotels Awards of Excellence Ceremony and Gala be held?
The 2024 Historic Hotels Annual Awards of Excellence Ceremony & Gala will be held on Thursday, November 21, 2024 at The Omni Homestead, in Hot Springs, Virginia.
Throughout the Historic Hotels Awards of Excellence program, we review the nominations for a number of factors, such as the following:
- How well does the historic hotel or resort incorporate its history and stories from its past in the present guest experience?
- How well does the historic hotel or resort incorporate its history and stories from its past in its digital marketing, its website, its ecommerce, and its social media?
- Does the historic hotel or resort make use of and leverage its inclusion in Historic Hotels of America or Historic Hotels Worldwide (such as logo dynamically linked to its pages in HistoricHotelsWorldwide.com or HistoricHotels.org)?
- Does the historic hotel or resort participate in the Top 25 Historic Hotels Lists (as applicable) and other Historic Hotels of America or Historic Hotels Worldwide no-cost media opportunities?
- Has the historic hotel completed a noteworthy historic preservation or historic restoration that increases the recognition and celebration of the historic hotel as a noteworthy heritage landmark?
- Has the historic hotel achieved any noteworthy awards or accolades that increase its recognition as one of the finest historic hotels or increase the recognition of something else on site?
Generally, the Nominee Finalists achieve many of the above. Sometimes, the tie-breaker is whether or not the Nominee Finalist Hotel includes the Historic Hotels of America or Historic Hotels Worldwide logo on the historic hotel’s website, in other digital marketing, and in its own press releases.
