Ken Hutcheson is the Principal of Old Dominion Public Affairs, LLC located in Richmond, VA. Prior to launching his own firm in January 2018, Ken served as Director of Government Relations in the Richmond, Va., office of Williams Mullen and as the Vice Chair of the firm’s Government Relations Group for almost eight years. Ken provides full-service, bipartisan public affairs strategies to support his clients’ public policy goals and initiatives amidst the complex challenges they face. Ken works with clients on government relations, legislative advocacy, procurement, business development, economic development, regulatory, public relations and corporate grassroots matters. He brings a broad array of capabilities and relationships developed and honed over more than 25 years in the service of political, corporate, trade association and nonprofit clients across Virginia. With a proven track record at the federal, state and local level, Ken manages multifaceted bipartisan legislative and public affairs campaigns by developing coalitions through numerous partnerships with small and large corporate clients. Ken leveraged his coalition-building skills to form the Virginia Alternative & Renewable Energy Association (VA-AREA) in December of 2008. Serving as its president and lobbyist until 2014, he recruited more than 70 member companies and organizations leading to VA-AREA being recognized as one of the early primary drivers for public policy on behalf of the renewable energy industry in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Ken was instrumental in the passage of state legislation that resulted in a special occupancy tax that benefits The Homestead.
